Anya Okhmatovskaia is a research associate at the MCHI Surveillance Lab. She has a Bachelor's and a PhD degrees in Psychology from Moscow University, and a Master's in Computer Science from the University of Southern California. Before joining the Surveillance Lab in 2006, Anya was working at the USC Institute for Creative Technologies, where she focused on the computational modeling of emotion and human-computer interaction. Her current research interests lie in applied artificial intelligence and knowledge modeling. She has been involved in several projects designing ontology-driven software systems and agent-based simulation models.

My son Timur and I in Aruba, December 2011

In case you were wondering... Anya and Anna are the same thing in Russian: Anna is the full name (as one would have in their passport), and Anya is a derivative (along with Anuta, Annoushka, Nyusha and over a dozen others) - think of it as William vs. Bill. I am half-Belorussian, grew up in Minsk and still have some family there.

Aside from working on the (always overdue) tasks for my "official" projects here at the lab, I entertain myself by designing and managing the Lab's website. You can find me on the 3rd floor of 1140 Pine (first office to the right).
